Caroline Barnhill

OWNER

Caroline Barnhill started talking at nine months old and hasn’t let up since. She has nearly 20 years of experience in writing, editing, media relations, media training, thought leadership and more. After working at one of the world’s largest PR firms, and later as a communications officer for the state’s largest university, Caroline quickly discovered that there is a missing market for strategic communications services supporting small- to mid-sized businesses—so she made one. And her phone’s been ringing off the hook ever since.

Caroline’s writing can be seen in Raleigh Magazine, the Triangle Business Journal, NC State magazine and other outlets. Her clients have been featured in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, the News & Observer, and Money magazine. Additionally, she has worked with a variety of clients developing web copy, launching social media programs, managing media relations, producing internal communication documents, writing speeches and more.

And she’s always up for a challenge. Caroline has written about how artificial intelligence is changing the legal industry, the state of the Triangle’s mergers & acquisitions market, and the impact of feral pigs on eastern North Carolina farmers. (Yes, it’s a thing.) But she’s also helped a small tourism-focused company market their services to a specific client base, served as lead writer for a top research university's 10-year strategic plan, and helped a small, rural community college land an important grant – enabling them to continue their critical work of serving their local community.

She loves all aspects of communications and public relations, but her true passion is in helping her clients tell their stories.

Samantha Beavers

PUBLIC RELATIONS STRATEGIST

Samantha Beavers grew up in Holly Springs, N.C., just outside the City of Oaks. Always a sucker for a good story, her nose was stuck in a book most of her childhood. When it wasn’t, she was probably sitting at her kitchen table laughing at some family story that never grows old. Her love for stories quickly turned into a desire to help more people tell them.

Samantha graduated with a degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Journalism and Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. After graduation, Samantha spent a few years counseling students and doing personal development both domestically and internationally. An avid traveler, she has learned how to communicate with various types of people from different backgrounds and cultures. She also has extensive experience in editing — from web content and blog posts to ebooks and internal documents.

She is passionate about getting to know people, helping them find their voice and coming alongside them to communicate effectively. She loves making a dream become a reality and making something that’s good even better. Whether it’s asking the right questions, making sure a comma is in the right place or analyzing every detail to ensure it fits within the bigger picture, Samantha loves working behind the scenes to make individuals and organizations flourish.

Stephanie Policastro

WRITER | EDITOR

Stephanie Policastro grew up in Morgantown, WV as the social butterfly of the family—never sitting still for long and always ready to strike up a conversation. In high school, she developed a passion for writing, public speaking and event planning, and knew that pursuing a degree in journalism would be the perfect fit.

Stephanie graduated from West Virginia University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and a minor in Communications. In the following years, she moved from New York City, to Philadelphia, and eventually back to Manhattan for roles at PR agencies, a national nonprofit and a liberal arts college on New York’s Upper East Side.

After relocating to Cary in 2018, Stephanie transitioned to the roles of stay-at-home mom and freelance communications consultant. She recently joined Oak & State as writer and editor, and looks forward to bringing her experience in content strategy, copyediting and publications to organizations in the Triangle!
